The breath-taking diversity of Marie-Claude Maqua-Klein's art work defies catergorization. Her work moves between mediums and disciplines with effortless grace and confidence. A rarity in her talents, the artist is as gifted a sculptor, as she is a painter, installation and mixed media artist.
She is an artist who creates without limitations or boundaries. "Creation is only possible if the spirit is free. During my work, observing, feeling and having confidence are the bases for acquiring this freedom" she told us when we had the pleasure to interview the artist...
Having spent my youth in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes, where the river Semois constantly bypasses the mountains, where the fog seems to dictate time, … the heart of my work is inspired by nature.
Earth, mountains ... strength, stability
Water, life… everything passes, we can´t restrain anything.
I unite values from the past with the present in order to write my story.
Nature doesn´t ask for anything, it´s there.
If I want to control nature, it loses lightness, intimacy.
The freedom of emotions, lines, colors is essential. Creation is only possible if the spirit is free. During my work, observing, feeling and having confidence are the bases for acquiring this freedom.
If they could dream a little while looking at my paintings and if they could understand, while looking at my slate sculptures, that it is possible to connect the past with the present, even if it is very fragile, then I would have made my message clear.
In order to avoid boredom, I am always looking for the New while staying myself. If my art isn´t sincere, I destroy it.
